Talk to me and I better not hear a word

Blatant Plagiarism

If you profit, indirectly, on the coat tails of an existing work… it just means you’re a shit artist, with no real creative input whatsoever.

But maybe that’s not the point. Maybe they just want any money they can, from idiots who don’t know any better.

Tyler the Creator (ha ha) can go away now….anytime.

But, there will always be ignorant people who buy into his line of bullshit.

Im pretty sure Frank Ocean didn’t make any money off the Eagles? I’m absolutely sure you can’t make money off a free mixtape

He can certainly make money from people coming to his shows, because they heard the mixtape and liked it though. Right?

The whole ‘money’ thing is less important to me than the actual artistic integrity of it all.

He lifted the music and he lifted the actual melody of ‘Hotel California’. Only thing he changed, was the lyrics.

If I make a mixtape of myself speaking over master tracks of the Beatles songs and give them away, then sellout a show, where I perform the songs, sell T shirts and other merch…. THAT is making money off the Beatles.

The music is copyrighted. The melody is copyrighted. Public performances, without paying ASCAP/BMI are illegal. Pretty simple.

But, I have a hunch that Frank Ocean is using this story to garner attention, rather than utilize his artistry (ha ha).

You would think Beyonce would sue him, or her people he straight up used a cover, not just the sample.   If you ever heard the live version of American Wedding, he never used it long enough to be considered more than a sample. Did Jethro Tull sue the Eagles?   We used to know sounds more like Hotel California than American Wedding.    Coldplay didn’t have a problem, in fact they embraced him. He is going to open for them in a couple of European shows. MGMT didnt have a problem with this “plagiarism” He credited the works in many interviews months ago.  Even about when his album was going to come out and who what he was going to be allowed to use. He had contact with the Eagles representatives, before they even tried to sue.
